Book Donations


Our project depends on donated books to survive. We receive donations from publishers, bookstores and individuals. We will gladly accept new or used books, especially paperbacks (most prisons do not allow hardcover or spiral–bound books).  Before donating more than 5 boxes or 8 bags of books, please contact us so we can process the donation efficiently.

The most requested topics include drug and alcohol recovery issues, dictionaries, any contemporary fiction in Spanish, fiction and non–fiction by people of color, queer fiction and non–fiction, abuse issues, health, arts and crafts and mystery/horror novels.

We’ve even made it easy to purchase some of the books we are in need of right now through our partner bookstore, Boneshaker Books.  We also have an online wish list at

If you live in the Twin Cities area, you may drop books off anytime at our partner book store Boneshaker Books in south Minneapolis. Boneshaker is open from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day (address below). If you live outside the Twin Cities area, you may mail your donations to:

Tell the Post Office that you want to mail your package at Media Mail rate, which is much cheaper than First Class. Before donating a large number of books (more than 100), please contact us so we can process the donation efficiently.
